PUBLICATION POLICY

Global Frontier: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Politics is committed to upholding the highest standards of scholarly integrity, transparency, and ethical publishing. This Publication Policy sets out the principles and procedures that govern all aspects of the journal’s editorial and publication activities. All stakeholders — authors, reviewers, and editors — are expected to familiarise themselves with these policies and to adhere to them throughout the submission and publication process.

Part I:  Reviewing Procedure

1.1  Peer Review Statement

Global Frontier is committed to a rigorous, fair, and transparent peer review process as the cornerstone of quality scholarly publishing. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are subject to independent expert evaluation before a decision is made on publication.

The journal operates a double-blind peer review system, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the review process. This approach is designed to eliminate bias and to ensure that manuscripts are assessed solely on the basis of academic merit. The Editorial Board is committed to maintaining the integrity and independence of the review process at every stage.

1.2  Peer Review Process

Upon submission, each manuscript is subject to an initial editorial screening by the Editorial Office to assess its compliance with submission guidelines and its relevance to the journal’s scope. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned by the Editor-in-Chief or a designated Section Editor to a minimum of two independent reviewers with relevant subject expertise.

The standard review period is three to six weeks. Based on reviewer reports, the Editor-in-Chief will communicate one of the following decisions to the corresponding author:

  • Accept without revision
  • Accept subject to minor revisions
  • Major revisions required, with resubmission for further review
  • Reject

Authors will receive reviewer feedback to support the revision of their manuscript where applicable. All editorial decisions are final.

1.3  Resolving Inconsistencies

Where the two assigned reviewers reach divergent conclusions — one recommending acceptance and the other recommending rejection — the Editor-in-Chief may appoint a third independent reviewer to provide an additional assessment. The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief, who will consider all reviewer reports in conjunction with the journal’s editorial standards.

In all cases, the Editorial Board ensures that the quality and objectivity of the review process are maintained. Authors will be informed of the decision in a timely manner, accompanied by supporting reviewer comments where appropriate.

1.4  Section Policy

Global Frontier accepts original research articles, review articles, research notes, and commentary pieces within its interdisciplinary scope. All submission types undergo peer review unless explicitly stated otherwise. Each section of the journal is overseen by a designated Section Editor who is responsible for assigning reviewers and managing the review workflow within their thematic area.

Authors should select the most appropriate section at the time of submission. Manuscripts that do not clearly fit within any defined section will be assessed by the Editor-in-Chief, who may reassign the submission or request clarification from the author.

Part II:  Responsibilities

2.1  Authors’ Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality, accuracy, and integrity of all material submitted to the journal. By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that:

  • The work is original and has not been previously published in any form, nor is it under consideration elsewhere.
  • All data, findings, and arguments presented are accurate and have not been fabricated, falsified, or selectively reported.
  • Proper attribution has been given to all sources, and all prior work has been appropriately cited.
  • All named authors have made a substantive intellectual contribution to the research and have approved the final submitted version.
  • Any necessary ethical approvals or permissions (for research involving human participants, data, or sensitive materials) have been obtained.

Duplicate or simultaneous submission to another journal constitutes a breach of publication ethics and will result in immediate rejection. Authors are required to notify the Editorial Office promptly of any errors discovered in a published article.

2.2  Funding Statement

Authors must disclose all sources of funding that supported the research reported in their manuscript. The funding statement should identify the funding body or bodies by full name and, where applicable, include the relevant grant number(s) or award reference(s).

If the research received no specific funding, authors must state this explicitly. Accurate disclosure of funding sources is essential for transparency and is required by the journal as a condition of publication. This information will be published as part of the final article.

2.3  Editorial Responsibilities

The Editorial Board of Global Frontier is responsible for maintaining the quality, integrity, and consistency of the publication. Editors are expected to:

  • Evaluate all manuscripts fairly and solely on the basis of academic merit, without regard to the authors’ nationality, institutional affiliation, political views, or any other characteristic unrelated to the scholarly quality of the work.
  • Ensure that an appropriate number of qualified reviewers are assigned to each manuscript.
  • Make decisions in a timely and transparent manner, providing authors with clear and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and reviewer identities throughout the review process.
  • Declare and recuse themselves from any manuscript in which they have a conflict of interest.

The Editor-in-Chief bears ultimate responsibility for the editorial decisions of the journal and for ensuring compliance with these policies.

2.4  Reviewers’ Responsibilities

Reviewers play a central role in maintaining the academic standards of the journal. All reviewers are expected to:

  • Accept review assignments only for manuscripts within their area of subject expertise.
  • Provide objective, evidence-based, and constructive evaluations that assist authors in improving their work.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the content and existence of the manuscript under review.
  • Declare any potential conflicts of interest before or upon receipt of the manuscript.
  • Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe, or notify the Editorial Office promptly if they are unable to do so.
  • Refrain from using any unpublished material for personal or professional advantage.

Any failure to adhere to these responsibilities may result in removal from the journal’s reviewer panel.

Part III:  Ethical Publishing

3.1  Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Global Frontier is committed to the highest standards of publication ethics and follows the principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All parties involved in the publication process — authors, reviewers, and editors — are expected to uphold these standards.

The journal will not tolerate any form of academic misconduct, including but not limited to plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate submission, inappropriate authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or manipulation of the peer review process. Any allegation of misconduct will be investigated thoroughly, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with COPE guidelines.

3.2  Dealing with Unethical Behaviour

Any individual — whether an author, reviewer, editor, or reader — who suspects that a submitted or published manuscript contains evidence of misconduct is encouraged to report their concerns to the Editorial Office in writing. All complaints will be treated with confidentiality and investigated impartially.

Upon receipt of a misconduct allegation, the Editorial Office will acknowledge the complaint and initiate an investigation. Depending on the outcome, the Editorial Board may take actions including, but not limited to: rejection of the manuscript, notification of the relevant institution, issuance of a correction or expression of concern, or retraction of the published article. Throughout this process, the journal will adhere to COPE’s recommended guidelines for handling cases of suspected misconduct.

3.3  Plagiarism Prevention

Global Frontier operates a strict policy against all forms of plagiarism, including verbatim reproduction, paraphrasing without attribution, self-plagiarism (the reuse of the author’s own previously published material without disclosure), and the misappropriation of others’ ideas or data.

All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software prior to peer review. A similarity threshold is applied, and manuscripts that exceed the acceptable level will be returned to the author for revision or may be rejected outright, depending on the nature and extent of the similarity. Authors are advised to ensure that all sources are properly cited and that any prior work of their own that is referenced or built upon is clearly disclosed at the time of submission.

3.4  Retraction Policy

Published articles may be retracted if it is subsequently determined that there has been a serious ethical violation, significant factual error, or evidence of research misconduct that undermines the reliability of the findings. Retraction may be initiated by the authors, the Editorial Board, or following an investigation prompted by a third-party complaint.

A retraction notice will be published in a subsequent issue of the journal, clearly indicating the title and authors of the retracted article, the reason for retraction, and the date of retraction. The original article will remain accessible online but will be marked as retracted to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record. Corrections or expressions of concern may be issued where a full retraction is not warranted.

3.5  Competing Interests

All authors must disclose, at the time of submission, any financial, institutional, professional, or personal relationships that could be perceived as influencing the research, its interpretation, or the submission process. This includes, but is not limited to, funding from commercial organisations, consultancy arrangements, equity interests, or employment relationships with organisations that have a stake in the research outcomes.

Reviewers and editors are likewise required to disclose any potential conflicts and to recuse themselves where such conflicts exist. Competing interest statements will be published as part of the final article. If no competing interests exist, authors should state this explicitly in the covering letter and within the manuscript.

Part IV:  Open Access

4.1  Open Access Policy

Global Frontier is an open access journal. All published articles are made freely available online immediately upon publication, without subscription or access fees, in accordance with the principles of open scholarly communication. The journal’s open access model is intended to maximise the reach, visibility, and impact of published research, making it accessible to academics, students, practitioners, and the wider public across the world.

Open access publication is supported through a modest Article Processing Charge (APC) payable by the corresponding author upon acceptance (see Section 4.3). The journal does not charge any submission fee.

4.2  Archiving and Digital Preservation

Global Frontier is committed to the long-term preservation and accessibility of all published content. The journal archives its digital content through recognised preservation platforms to ensure that articles remain permanently accessible even in the event of technical disruptions or changes to the journal’s publishing arrangements.

Authors are encouraged to deposit accepted manuscripts in their institutional repository or a recognised subject repository following publication, in accordance with the journal’s self-archiving policy (see Section 5.3). All articles are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to enable permanent and stable online citation.

4.3  Article Processing Charge

To support the costs of editorial management, copyediting, typesetting, online hosting, and digital preservation, Global Frontier levies a modest Article Processing Charge (APC) upon formal acceptance of a manuscript. There is no fee at the submission or review stage; the charge is applied only once an article has been accepted for publication following peer review.

The applicable charge will be communicated to the corresponding author at the time of acceptance, prior to the commencement of production. Payment of the APC has no bearing whatsoever on editorial decisions, which are made exclusively on the basis of academic merit. Authors who have genuine financial constraints are encouraged to contact the Editorial Office to discuss available options before or at the time of submission.

Part V:  Copyright & Licensing

5.1  Copyright Policy

Authors of articles published in Global Frontier retain the copyright of their work. By submitting a manuscript, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive licence to publish, reproduce, distribute, and archive the article in print and electronic formats. Third parties wishing to reproduce or redistribute any published material must obtain the appropriate permission and must provide a full and accurate citation of the original source.

The journal does not claim ownership of the intellectual content of published articles. Authors are free to use their own work in other publications, provided that the original publication in Global Frontier is properly acknowledged.

5.2  Licensing

All articles published in Global Frontier are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence, unless otherwise stated. This licence permits others to share, copy, redistribute, adapt, and build upon the published work for any purpose, including commercial use, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and source, a link to the licence is provided, and any changes made are indicated.

Authors should review the terms of the applicable Creative Commons licence carefully before submission. By agreeing to publish in the journal, authors accept the terms of the licence under which their article will be made available.

5.3  Self-Archiving Policy

Global Frontier supports the principles of open scholarship and permits authors to self-archive their work in institutional repositories, personal academic websites, or recognised subject repositories. Authors may deposit the final published version of their article (the version of record) immediately upon publication, provided that the original publication in Global Frontier is clearly acknowledged and a link to the published article (including the DOI) is included.

Authors should ensure that any self-archived version is consistent with the version of record and that it is not presented in a manner that may mislead readers as to the source of publication.

5.4  Disclaimer

The views, opinions, and conclusions expressed in articles published in Global Frontier are those of the authors alone and do not represent the official position of the Editorial Board, the journal, or any affiliated institution. The journal and its editors cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions in published content, or for the consequences arising from the use of information contained therein.
