CONFERENCES
Global Frontier’s Conferences, Seminars & Academic Events
Global Frontier: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Politics is committed to fostering intellectual exchange beyond the published page. The journal recognises that conferences, seminars, symposia, and workshops are indispensable spaces for the development of political scholarship — spaces where ideas are tested, collaborations are formed, and emerging research takes shape through dialogue.
In line with the practice of leading international journals in political science and international relations, Global Frontier maintains an active programme of academic events, including an annual conference, thematic seminars, expert symposia, roundtables, and public lectures. These events bring together scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and researchers from across disciplines and geographical contexts in productive scholarly exchange.
This page serves two purposes: it provides information about academic events organised or supported by Global Frontier, and it serves as a resource for the scholarly community by listing significant forthcoming conferences and events relevant to the journal’s areas of focus.
PART I: JOURNAL-ORGANISED EVENTS
1. The Global Frontier Annual Conference on Politics and Interdisciplinary Inquiry
The Global Frontier Annual Conference is the journal’s signature academic event, bringing together original scholarly work across its thematic and disciplinary scope. The conference serves as the primary annual forum for the journal’s scholarly community — an opportunity for authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and the wider scholarly community to engage in substantive academic dialogue.
Format: The conference is held in a hybrid format, combining in-person participation with a live online stream, to ensure accessibility for scholars regardless of geographical location or institutional resources.
Frequency: Annual
Duration: Two days
Programme: The conference programme includes keynote addresses by distinguished scholars, thematic panels, roundtable discussions, a doctoral and early-career researchers’ session, and a policy dialogue session that brings academic analysis into conversation with practitioners and policymakers.
Paper Presentation: Scholars may submit abstracts for paper presentation. Accepted papers are considered for fast-track review for publication in Global Frontier, subject to the full double-blind peer review process.
Announcements: Details of each year’s conference, including the call for papers, confirmed venue, and registration information, are announced on this page and communicated to the journal’s mailing list in advance of the event.
2. Thematic Seminars
Throughout the year, Global Frontier organises focused thematic seminars bringing together a group of experts to examine a specific political question, theoretical debate, or contemporary issue in depth. These seminars generate focused, high-quality academic dialogue and provide the intellectual basis for themed journal issues or special sections.
Thematic seminars typically run for one day or half a day, in either online or hybrid format. Participation combines invitation with open registration. Selected contributions from each seminar may be developed for publication in the journal, subject to peer review.
3. Symposia
Global Frontier convenes symposia on questions of particular urgency or significance within the journal’s scope. A symposium brings together four to six leading scholars to present and respond to each other’s perspectives on a defined question or debate. Symposium exchanges are published in the journal as a curated collection of short, responsive scholarly contributions, providing readers with a focused window into a live intellectual debate.
4. Academic Workshops
The journal’s workshop programme supports the development of research in progress. Workshops provide a structured environment for scholars — particularly doctoral researchers and early-career academics — to present and receive detailed feedback on manuscripts before submission to the journal or other outlets.
Workshops may be thematically focused or open to work across the journal’s scope. Participation in a workshop does not guarantee acceptance for publication. All manuscripts developed through workshop participation are subject to the full peer review process upon submission.
5. Webinar Series: Politics in Dialogue
Politics in Dialogue is the journal’s regular webinar series, in which scholars present recent research and engage in discussion with invited respondents and the wider scholarly community. Webinars are free to attend and open to all registered participants. Each webinar features one or two presentations followed by a structured discussion.
Webinars are recorded and made available on the journal’s website following the event. Scholars interested in presenting in the series are invited to contact the editorial office.
6. Public Lectures and Policy Dialogues
Global Frontier organises an annual public lecture delivered by a distinguished scholar or practitioner, as well as periodic policy dialogue sessions that bring together academic researchers and policy practitioners to discuss the implications of political research for governance, public policy, and international affairs. These events reflect the journal’s commitment to ensuring that rigorous scholarship engages with the world beyond the academy.

Scholars wishing to be notified when calls for papers are released are invited to register their interest by contacting the editorial office.
PART IV: SUBMITTING CONFERENCE-BASED RESEARCH TO THE JOURNAL
Global Frontier welcomes original manuscripts developed from research first presented at academic conferences. Authors submitting conference-based work must observe the following conditions.
What is acceptable for submission A manuscript representing a substantially revised, analytically developed, and expanded scholarly contribution beyond what was presented at the conference. The submitted manuscript must be original in its full written form and must not have been published in any conference proceedings or working paper series.
What must be disclosed Authors must disclose in their cover letter that the work was previously presented at a conference, providing the name of the conference, the location, and the date of presentation. This disclosure is required by the journal’s publication ethics policy and does not prejudice editorial assessment.
What is not acceptable A manuscript that reproduces, with only minor changes, the text of a previously published conference proceedings paper. If a version of the work has appeared in published proceedings, it is considered a prior publication and is not eligible for submission to Global Frontier without substantial and clearly documented revision.
Fast-track consideration for conference presenters Papers presented at Global Frontier-organised events, or at conferences with which the journal holds a formal partnership, are considered for an expedited editorial review process. Authors should indicate in their cover letter that their paper was presented at a journal-associated event. Fast-track review remains subject to the full double-blind peer review process; it affects timeline only, not evaluation criteria.
